Arsenal are finally on the brink of signing a new striker, but in typical Arsene Wenger fashion, he is a ban-for-buck forward.
According to the Mirror, the Gunners are inches away from wrapping up a deal for Lucas Perez, the Spanish attacker who scored 17 goals last term for Deportivo La Coruna.
The Mirror write that the 27-year-old underwent a medical with the north London giants on Thursday. All that is left is for Perez to put pen to paper on a contract – believed to be four-year long and worth £17m – with the English Premier League side.
However, the British news outlet also claim that new reports suggest that Arsene Wenger might launch a last-minute bid for Alexandre Lacazette despite his previous failed attempts to land the Frenchman.
After missing out on Jamie Vardy and Gonzalo Higuain, Le Prof turned to the Lyon striker hoping he could bolster his attack, but the player’s Ligue 1 employers played hardball with the Gunners.
Arsenal, who are in action on Saturday against Watford, have Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck to play in the lone-striker role, but the latter of the two players is out with a long-term injury.
Lacazette is valued at £60m by Lyon, which makes it hard to believe that Wenger will cut that big of a cheque for a striker when he has all but signed another.
