If the Gunners sign Mustafi and Perez, that could take their spending to around £100m. One reporter was keen to point this out.

From signing no one to accumulatively spending big over the summer, this is definitely one of the strangest transfer windows for Arsenal and its fans.

BBC Sport recently reported that Shkodran Mustafi of Valencia and Lucas Perez of Deportivo La Coruna are set to undergo medicals ahead of signing for the Gunners.

The German defender will cost in excess of £35m, whilst the north London giants will have to fork out £17.1m for Spanish striker. If the deals go through, this will take Wenger’s spending this summer to around £100m.

In a pre-game press conference for the clash with Watford, one reporter pointed out this contradiction to belief that the French tactician doesn’t like to spend money in the transfer window. Wenger responded:

“You accuse me now of being a money splasher?”

“It’s a shame you’re not my friend. You’d see me when I go out I spend a lot of money.”

Le Prof also admitted that he is "99% confident" new transfers will be wrapped up before deadline day on August 31.
