In light of the failed attempt to sign striker and former player Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte surges ahead with his quest for a new attacker, plotting a raid of former club Juventus for a new forward.
This is according to the Mirror, with the British news outlet claiming that the Blues manager is looking to poach the Serie A champions of veteran attacker Mario Mandzukic.
The Italian boss has set his sights on the Croatian ace after a long rumored deal for Everton’s Lukaku fell through after he re-signed a new contract with the Toffees. With the transfer window deadline day quickly approaching, Conte’s side will likely have to scramble to lure the Croatian striker to Stamford Bridge.
The 32-year-old forward presents an opportunity for Conte to bolster his finishing line in hopes of challenging current holders Leicester City, Manchester United, and Manchester City. However, whether the Old Lady are willing to cash in on the player they signed from Athletico Madrid a year ago for £16m remains unclear.
Conte was appointed manager of Chelsea earlier this year and is keen to restore the five-time Premier League champions to glory this season. However, the London giants’ will have Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi only to rely on for goals, with Pedro and Loic Remy failing to impress in 2015/16.
Last season was a dismal campaign for the Stamford Bridge side after finishing tenth in the standings, but with the 2013 Globe Soccer Coach of the Year winner at the helm, Chelsea fans have high expectations for this season’s outcome.
