Premier League champions Arsenal can finally take a sigh of relief.

One of Arsenal’s key forwards Danny Welbeck could return to action sooner than expected. The England international picked up a knee injury in May this year as club boss Arsene Wenger ruled out the possibility of seeing him in action again this season. But speaking to journalists in a pre-match press conference on Thursday, the French boss announced that there were some good news from the club’s medical department.

Welbeck, a former Manchester United star, could return to action around December this year, and not February 2017 as earlier predicted. His injury in May was a huge blow to Wenger who heavily relied on the inconsistent Olivier Giroud in the hunt for goals. Although Welbeck returned to play a crucial role in the gunner’s attack, most notably his match-winning goal at the Emirates against defending champions Leicester City, his return was short lived by the knee problem. On Thursday, Wenger said this about the 25-year-old starlet:

“He has an inflammation of his knee and they had to go in again to see if it is healing well or not. If the healing was not good, he would have been out until April, but the news was excellent and he will be back around Christmas.

“He had a second check with a camera inside. That was the good news of last week, the only good news. That was very positive.”

Wenger’s men play Leicester City this Saturday at the King Power Stadium in their second league match of the new season. Both Arsenal and Leicester will be hoping to get back to winning ways after losing their opening games against Liverpool and Hull City respectively.
