Team news

Benfica

Last year saw Rui Jorge's side lose this same competition, and they will be loath to allow that to happen for a second straight season. In 2015, the Eagles were beaten by a Sporting CP side coached by none other than Jorge Jesus, who enjoyed a highly successful spell with Benfica prior to his move.

Supporters of the Portuguese powerhouse may be concerned how their team will fare this season. This summer has seen the departure of two key players: Renato Sanches to Bayern Munich for an initial fee of €35 million, whilst Nicolas Gaitan moved to Atletico Madrid in a €25 million transfer.

Rui Jorge will be coming into this match with a bit of a selection crisis on his hands, as Ederson, André Almeida, Jardel, Rui Fonte and Andrija Zivkovic all struggling with injuries.

Sporting Braga

By contrast, Sporting Braga will be coming into this game with largely a full-strength squad available. With the exception of José Peseiro has little selection worries, as the Chilean tactician seeks his first ever title with his new club.

Prior to this, Peseiro was the coach of Porto after Julen Lopetegui was fired in January of this year. However, his spell there was not successful and he ended up losing the Portuguese cup on penalties - to ironically, his present employers. This will be his second spell in charge of the Archbishops after previously being in charge during the 2012/2013 season.
