Wayne Rooney's testimonial match is set to kick off at 20:00 BST.

The much anticipated Wayne Rooney’s testimonial match is set to make history on Facebook. The match will be between Manchester United and Wayne Rooney’s former club Everton. 

This will be the first ever game between Premier League teams to be aired live on Facebook. More than 1.7 billion people are expected to follow the match live on the social media platform on Wayne Rooney’s and Man United’s official pages. 

The proceeds from the match will be shared with four selected charity organizations. The match will be played at Old Trafford and is set to honor Rooney’s 12 years at Man Utd. 

The England captain has only played for two teams in his professional club career; Everton and Man United. He joined the Toffees in 2002 and scored 15 goals in 67 league appearances. He then switched to Man United in 2004 and has now scored 178 goals in 368 league appearances. Speaking ahead of his testimonial match, the 30-year-old said:

"I am delighted my testimonial game will be streamed globally, which will hopefully raise awareness and increase donations."

Man Utd’s Facebook page has more than 70 million ‘likes’ while Rooney’s has more than 25 million. The match is set to kick off at 20:00 BST and new signings Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Erick Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan could feature.
