Analysis

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte comes to this match having guided the West London outfit to three consecutive pre-season victories over Atus Ferlach, RZ Pellets and Liverpool. Zidane on the other hand suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat to Les Parisiens on Wednesday, a result that will force him back to the drawing board to come up with a better plan of overcoming the Blues.

Los Blancos fans will be concerned by the fact that the French tactician fielded quite a strong side that had the likes of Raphael Varane, Casemiro, Marcelo and their old boy Alvaro Morata but still failed to beat Unai Emery’s men. With the likes of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo absent, all eyes will be on the World Cup winner with France to come up with a winning combination to avoid yet another humiliating defeat. Confirming the absence of Bale and Ronaldo, coach Zidane told journalists during a press briefing ahead of the match:

"The (European Cup) ended late and we are not going to take any risks. I want the players to return at 100 percent. We have a deep enough squad to cover the others."

The club also confirmed their arrival on their official Twitter account:

Conte, on the other side of the pitch, has a wide variety of players to choose from expect Cesc Fabregas and new signing N’Golo Kante who is yet to linkup with the squad after leaving the King Power Stadium and steering France to the finals of the European Championship. In an interview with journalists after the Liverpool match, the former Juventus boss said:

"I was pleased with my team [against Liverpool] because I saw the right spirit and a lot of positive things, but I know and my players know that we can improve a lot.

"I am pleased with the attitude today and also that when we played with 10 men we didn’t suffer. Don’t forget we are working very hard with two training sessions every day and it is a good attitude.

"The most important thing today was to see the right spirit in my team and the will to fight to win a friendly game. This is the right way."
