Match facts

  • This will be the 12th meeting (including friendlies) featuring Bayern Munich and AC Milan
  • It's the second consecutive friendly clash between die Roten and the Rossoneri. Last year, the Bavarian giants cruised to an easy 3-0 win over the Diavolo
  • Curiously enough, Bayern have only beaten Milan once in competitive fixtures - this was back during the second leg of the 1989/1990 Champions League (then the European Cup) semi-finals
  • Milan (with 7 titles) and Bayern (with 5 titles) are the second and third most decorated sides in the Champions League

Team news

Bayern Munich

Die Roten have recently announced their traveling party for their USA tour:

Whilst Arturo Vidal and David Alaba now return to the fold after representing Chile and Austria this summer, there are still numerous big names absent from Ancelotti's roster. Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Robert Lewandowski, and Mats Hummels are still away on holiday after featuring for Germany and Poland at this summer's Euro tournament, meaning that USA-based die Roten fans will have to watch them in action on TV in the German Super Cup next month as opposed to in person at the ICC.

In terms of transfers, Bayern have had a few players depart, including Mario Gotze to Borussia Dortmund and Mehdi Benatia on loan to Juventus, whilst bringing in Hummels and Portuguese youngster Renato Sanches. It remains to be seen if die Roten are truly done spending or if there could be more departures before the summer transfer window closes next month.

AC Milan

Another season, another year without European football. For the third straight term, AC Milan will not feature in the Champions League or even the Europa League, with their last participation taking place during the 2013/2014 campaign. In addition, the Rossoneri are now under the guidance of their fifth coach - sixth if one counts caretaker Mauro Tassotti - since Massimiliano Allegri was dismissed in January 2014. For fans, the managerial merry-go-round has raised some major concerns if the team will ever return to the European stage and establish some continuity, or will become like the "next Palermo", a side who changed managers a whopping nine times in just last season.

Last term saw Milan finish in a disappointing seventh spot, behind the likes of Sassuolo and a whopping 34 behind Scudetto winners Juventus. New coach Vincenzo Montella has a tough task ahead to revive the team's fortunes, but they have not exactly impressed in this summer's transfer market.

Several players look set to be on their way out. Colombian international Carlos Bacca was left out of the team's USA tour entirely, with Milan keen to move him on to bring in some much needed funds, and fellow striker Jeremy Menez was reportedly of interest to clubs in the Middle East.
