Liverpool have completed another summer signing with former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger joining the Reds on a free transfer.

The ex-Gunners man has penned a short-term deal to become Liverpool's third-choice keeper, behind newly signed Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

In his first interview with the club, Manninger revealed he had been waiting for a move to Anfield.

"After these years, in Italy and the last four years in Germany, I hadn't given up, I still waited for the phone call.

"Obviously, it's probably not the time for me to push for the next three or four years to get a place in the goal.

"Time says it's not possible to play 50 games a year. But if I'm called up, I'm definitely there for games, I will play."

Manager Jurgen Klopp also had words of praise for the player, telling the club's official website:

“Alex has played at a high level in his career in the top division in England, Germany, Spain, Italy and Austria for some very big teams – not many people can say that!

“He brings us great experience, and I know that as a person he is someone who every day will show what a great professional he is and will be important for the squad."

During his time at Arsenal, Manninger made 63 appearances and helped his side win the double in 1998.

The 39-year-old shot-stopper is Klopp's seventh summer signing following the acquisition of Mainz goalkeeper Karius, Schalke centre-back Joel Matip, Southampton forward Sadio Mane, Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic, FC Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan and Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
