The French striker looks to force a Lyon exit, but the Gunners will face competition from the Ligue 1 champions.

Just as Arsenal appeared to be on the brinks of recruiting Argentine striker Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan, the fans will have their heads turned, as another option has emerged – rather re-emerged – as an option this summer.

That man is none other than French striker Alexandre Lacazette, with L’Equipe claiming that the 25-year-old has informed Lyon that he desires a Parc Olympique Lyonnais exit.

The Gunners have long been linked with Lacazette, having enjoyed an impressive 2015/16 season in which he netted 21 times in 34 appearances in France for his Ligue 1 employers.

However, the Frenchman – a shock omission from UEFA Euro 2016 – now seeks pastures news, with the Emirates stadium tipped as his likely destination. However, L’Equipe claim that the north London giants will face competition from PSG.

The Ligue 1 holders are believed to be after Lacazette, as Unai Emery is tasked with the mission of finding the ideal man to fill the gap left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Lyon ace won’t come cheap, meaning a bidding war may play in Les Parisiens’ hand, with the report claiming that Alexandre could cost €50m.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans are still waiting for a new striker, with Giroud cutting a frustrated figure and Danny Welbeck possibly out until January with a major knee injury.
