Broadcast info

Who's playing: Leicester City face Oxford United in a preseason friendly without one of their former key players N’Golo Kante, who joined Premier League side Chelsea over the weekend. His departure sparked more rumors of Riyad Mahrez’s exit and coach Claudio Ranieri would want to put aside the headache of trying to maintain his title-winning side, as he rallies his men for this fixture.

They can however breathe a sigh of relief after their top scorer Jamie Vardy signed a new deal with the club earlier this year. This match will also present the perfect opportunity for the Italian manager to test his new signing Nampalys Mendy, who was brought in as N’Golo Kante’s replacement. Other new signings who could feature for the Premier League champions include Ahmed Musa, Luis Hernandez and Ron-Robert Zieler.

The Oxford United fixture will be a perfect warm-up for the league defending champions before they travel out to the USA to play in the International Champions Cup, where they will face Celtic, PSG and Barcelona.

On the other hand, this could be the biggest fixture for Oxford United in the 2016/17 campaign. The League One outfit would want to leave a mark against the English champions, having faced them 27 times in their history. Coach Michael Appleton was quoted by the club’s official website as saying:

“It’s a fantastic game for us and one I know the fans will be very excited about

“What Leicester achieved this season was unbelievable and I’d like to thank them for agreeing to play us. They will be sending a full squad and have also agreed to let us have all of the gate receipts which is a terrific gesture.”

After losing out on the league title to Northampton Town last season, the Us have started their preparations for the upcoming season with one win, one draw and one defeat in their three pre-season fixtures. They drew with Solihull Moors, beat Alhaurin de la Torre and then lost to Marbellla on Friday.
