Team news
Sheffield Wednesday
Wednesday have not featured in the top flight since being relegated in 2000, but were painfully close to ending this long wait earlier this May. Unfortunately, Carlos Carvalhal's men narrowly lost their play-off final 1-0 against Hull City. Highlights of this past season include beating Arsenal in the fourth round of the League Cup before falling to Stoke City in the next round.
The Owls have made some moves in this summer's transfer market, with forward Steven Fletcher and goalkeeper Jake Kean arriving on free transfers from Sunderland and Norwich City respectively, but supporters will be looking to see more new faces come in before the end of this August.
Fortunately for Owls supporters, key player Fernando Forestieri is back in action after recovering from a minor injury. The Argentinian-born former Italy u-21 international was on targed during Wednesday's 2-0 win over Chesterfield, who finished 18th in League One last term. Given that he was the team's top goal-scorer with 15 goals, his return to the fold will be certainly encouraging for his manager, colleagues, and fans. Midfielder Kieran Lee, who scored six across all competitions, also grabbed a goal during the first half against the third-tier side.
Benfica
Benfica, who won a record-setting 35th domestic title this past May, have had two high-profile departures this summer: Renato Sanches and Nicolas Gaitan. The two transfers to Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, which cost those clubs an initial €35 million and €25 million respectively, mean that Benfica will now have to start the upcoming term without two of their key players. Naturally, their fans will hope the team will try to bring in some replacements ahead of the upcoming domestic and continental campaigns.
