According to Sport Mediaset (as per Gazzetta dello Sport), Arsenal’s search for a new striker could take them to Italy, with the news outlet reporting that the Gunners are plotting a move for a Serie A striker.
With Danny Welbeck sidelined with a long-term injury, Olivier Giroud remains as the north London giants’ trusted goalscorer. However, he won’t be returning anytime soon, having played in the UEFA Euro 2016 final.
In addition, the Frenchman has cut a frustrated figure among the Arsenal supporters, with many crying for Wenger to replace Giroud with a world-class attacker.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain, even being linked with a player-plus-cash move for the striker that they almost signed in 2013.
However, it is not that Argentine ace that is being linked with a switch to the Emirates, but rather another Albiceleste forward. As written by the Italian news outlet, Arsenal are plotting a move for Mauro Icardi of Inter Milan.
Icardi has reportedly grown frustrated with life at Inter and the lack of service in the Nerazzurri. In step Arsene Wenger’s side, with Sport Mediaset claiming the London giants have invited Icardi to the English capital.
Arsenal’s £46m move for the 23-year-old could face competition from Napoli, as the Partenopei will likely move for the Argentine should they lose Higuain to Juventus.
