Carles Puyol, Eric Abidal, Deco and Samuel Eto'o were scheduled to play a charity game in Turkey, but they weren't able to make it out of the airport.

Football can't escape political situations, and these former Barcelona players are now fully aware of that.

Yesterday, Carles Puyol and many other former Blaugrana footballers travelled to Turkey, where Samuel Eto'o's foundation was supposed to celebrate a friendly match featuring legends such as Eric Abidal, Deco and even Andrés Iniesta. Unfortunately, the military coup that took place in Turkey made it impossible.

As the events unfolded, word got out about Puyol's expedition, who were stranded in Turkey's International Airport. Since the team had confirmed tha even Lionel Messi was supposed to play the game, a press release was quickly published.

After hours of negotiations, Turkish officers allowed the plane to leave. Having word of how the world reacted to their situation, Carles Puyol published a tweet to let all the world know they were OK.

"Just landed in Barcelona after what happened in Turkey. There were some tense moments out there, but we're all fine."
