After last season's nightmare with German giants Bayern Munich, Mario Gotze is set to return to his former club Borussia Dortmund.

The German international has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham and Liverpool, but according to Sport Bild, the player is on his way to reunite with Dortmund on a five-year contract worth £28 million.

The 2014 World Cup winner caught the attention of the Reds with his impressive numbers at Westfalenstadion. During his four-year spell with the German side, the 24-year-old netted 31 goals and generated 44 assists in 116 matches.

In 2013, Gotze penned a three-year deal with the Bavarians for £30million but failed to gain a regular starting position in the line-up. In addition, the forward endured a difficult 2015/2016 season, as he missed six months of football due injury problems.

All of this has prompted the striker to rejoin his old club in hopes for more playing time, after Bayern Munich told him he doesn’t fit in the club’s future plans moving forward.
