Portugal clinched the coveted trophy, but there were several individual prizes up for grabs.

On Sunday, Portugal defied the odds, silenced the critics, and broke the hearts of several French fans by beating Les Bleues 1-0 in extra-time in the UEFA Euro 2016 final.

A goal from Eder helped Fernando Santos’ crew to an unforgettable win, as Cristiano and Co, put an end to their major competition misery by lifting silverware. However, the European Championship wasn’t the only prize up for grab.

Many individual accolades were handed out to stand-out players from the summer tournament. One of them was Portugal starlet Renato Sanches, who was named Young Player of the Tournament after helping his nation to the title.

The 18-year-old signed for Bayern Munich prior to the tournament’s kick-off, and put in stellar displays – and a beautiful quarter-final goal – to guide A Seleção das Quinas to continental glory.

France superstar Antoine Griezmann scooped up the Golden Boot award with little competition, having scored six goals en route to the finally. Unfortunately for the hosts, he drew blanks in the most important game.

The Atletico Madrid ace also clinched the Golden Ball – the Player of the Tournament prize – after the game, an accolade which could come as a consolidation.

The 25-year-old was still understandably upset to lose the final, saying (as per Football France):

"Maybe later, I will be proud [of my Golden Ball award]. But for now, the entire squad is disappointed.

"I am very sorry for my colleagues. It was my heart's desire to offer them this trophy but I couldn't score so I'm sad. It is cruel but wonderful at the same time.

"We will have to learn from this experience. We have no regrets."

Cristiano scooped up the Silver Shoe thanks to his three goals and three assists, whilst the Bronze Boot went to Olivier Giroud for his three goals and two assists.

Elsewhere, Pepe was named the Man of the Match from the 1-0 after shutting out France’s attack, with the Real Madrid center-back posing with his individual prize and the title for pictures after the final whistle.
