France’s superstar midfielder looks destined to return to Old Trafford, but this could mean bad news for a few players.

Reports emerged on late Saturday that La Liga giants Real Madrid have lost the Paul Pogba race to Manchester United, with a report on AS claiming that the Frenchman is now Old Trafford-bound.

The Red Devils have reportedly already reached an agreement with the player and his agent, having given in to Juventus’ staggering €120m asking price. The English Premier League giants will officially bid and trigger Pogba’s release clause next week.

Currently with Les Bleues and gearing up for the UEFA Euro 2016 final, he will become the world’s most expensive player, surpassing Gareth Bale. In addition, the midfielder will triple his wages, moving up from a €4.5m-per-year deal to €13.5m.

With Mourinho having already signed Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Special One is plotting an overhaul to help fund the Paul Pogba bid and to balance the books. According to the Sun, eight players from Van Gaal’s reign are facing the axe.

As reported by the British tabloid, a Man United source claims: “Jose has made it clear he wants to work with 22 key players.

“It means up to eight players heading out.”

The Sun claim that Marcos Rojo, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Morgan Schneiderlin are the three players mostly likely to be cut.

There are doubts over the future of Memphis Depay, Daley Blind, and Adnan Januzaj, whilst little expect Juan Mata – the man whom Mourinho chased out of Chelsea – to work with the Portuguese tactician.
