Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has extended his contract with the club by four additional years.

Jurgen Klopp has signed a new deal with Liverpool that will keep him at Anfield until 2022. The former Borussia Dortmund manager joined the Premier League side in October and signed a deal that would have kept him at the club until 2018. But following his impressive performance for the Kops last season, the club owners offered him a new deal. Speaking moments after putting pen to paper, the club owners said:

''His leadership will be critical to everything we hope to achieve,

Liverpool's principal owner John Henry added:

"The ideas and plans he has for the football infrastructure excite us

"We believe it benefits the organisation to have Jurgen committed to Liverpool for a sustained period, to make sure he is here to oversee this development.

"When you have an individual of Jurgen's quality in the building it makes perfect sense to secure that person for the long term.

"To not do so would be irresponsible."

The German tactician steered the Premier League side to the finals of the Capital One Cup and the UEFA Europa League but failed to win any of those two titles after losing to Man City and Sevilla in the two respective finals. Speaking after singing the new contract, Klopp said:

"We are very much at the beginning of our journey,

"I am the first to recognise that with this great commitment comes a great responsibility.

"There is much to do and much to achieve and we look to do this by being the most completely together group anywhere in the world."

The Merseyside outfit kick off their league campain against rivals Arsenal on August 13th. They will then travel to Burnely a week later before booking a date with Spurs at the White Hart Lane in their first three fixtures of the new season.
