Van Persie could join his former club in England ahead of the new Premier League season.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin Van Persie could make a shocking return to the Gunners, as reported by The Independent. The Fenerbahce forward is set to leave the Turkish giants at the end of the season and Arsenal have been tipped to sign him. Van Persie left the emirates stadium for Old Trafford in 2012, sparking outrage among Arsenal fans who had not expected him to sign for their bitter rivals. He scored 132 goals in 277 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side between 2004 and 2012 before joining Man Utd.

He spent three seasons at Old Trafford, scoring 48 league goals in 86 appearances. The arrival of Louis Van Gaal as Man Utd manager marked the end of the Dutchman’s reign as a forward for the Premier League giants, and was sold to the Yellow Canaries in 2015. He scored 14 league goals for the Turkish outfit in 29 appearances last season.

Speaking to journalists regarding Van Persie’s future earlier last week, Fenerbahce president Azil Yildirim said:

"Van Persie? We're waiting for buyers, if he wants to be sold."

In England, he won the FA Cup and the Community Shield with Arsenal, and the league title and Community Shield with the Red Devils. Wenger could be tempted to lure him back to Old Trafford after failing to sign some of key transfer targets such as Jamie Vardy and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
