After Gonzalo Higuaín rejected a renewal offer from Napoli, Atletico Madrid has taken advantage of the opportunity, looking to swap a deal to sign the Serie A club's leading goalscorer.

Despite the Argentine international's individual achievements with Napoli such as winning the Serie A's golden boot with 36 goals, Higuaín's brother and agent has made it clear that the forward will not renew his deal.

In an interview with Radio Continental, agent Nicolás Higuaín revealed Higuaín is looking for a bigger challenge than the Serie A, adding fuel to these rumors of the former Real Madrid player returning to La Liga.

"We arrived with the hope of Champions League football, to be Italian champions and to grow. It is your right to request the termination clause, but we opt for the path not to renew the contract and be free in 2018."

The 28-year-old's buy-out clause is a whopping 94 million euros; however, the Italian side could settle for around 60 million euros plus a player.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is interested in signing the player, as the Rojiblanco's starting offer is reported be 50 million euros.
