Will this honorary monument convince Argentina's record goalscorer to rethink his decision to retire?

The movement to get Argentina superstar Lionel Messi to go back on his decision to retire from international football after the Copa America Centenario final loss to Chile continues to grow.

Fans pleaded with the Barcelona superstar not to quit, whilst the Argentina president and legendary football icon Diego Maradona urged the 29-year-old to rethink his decision. However, La Pulga has yet to speak about any change of heart.

Now, though, the “Don’t Go Leo” campaign has witnessed its latest and biggest attempt to convince the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to quit La Albiceleste, with the capital Buenos Aires unveiling a statue of their all-time leading goalscorer.

The mayor of the Argentine capital Horacio Larreta Rodriguez was present for the unveiling, as the statue depicts the Blaugrana ace running with the ball at his feet. Check out the unveiling in the video below.
