Arsenal’s search for a reliable striker appeared to have ended when reports emerged that the Gunners had triggered the release clause of England striker Jamie Vardy. However, their chase officially ended when Leicester announced that the 29-year-old signed a four-year contract extension with the Foxes.
Currently with the Three Lions at Euro 2016, questions remain at to what caused the deal to collapse. Now, though, Sky Sports claim to have the scoop, writing that their sources claim that the major deciding factor for Vardy was down to tactical reason.
According to Sky Sports, having excelled under Claudio Ranieri’s counter-attack style of football, the Englishman was not convinced whether Arsenal’s possession-based philosophy would suit him.
Furthermore, with Arsene Wenger being notorious for signing high-profile players only to play them out of position, Sky Sports claim that the Frenchman could not promise Vardy would play in his preferred role as the main striker.
However, this doesn’t mean that the 2015/16 BPL Player of the Season holds little hopes over the future at King Power Stadium, as the report states that a promising future helped convince the striker to remain with the Premier League champions.
With Leicester set to embark on their title defense in the upcoming season, Vardy is believed to be confident that his team can perform well and upset the top dogs once more in the Champions League.
Arsenal now must look elsewhere for a new striker, but possibly not far, as Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli recently claimed that the north London giants have agreed personal terms with Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and will make a formal bid soon.
Despite Chelsea pressing, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Lukaku. An offer will be submitted.
