Premier League defending champions Leicester City have issued a statement regarding Jamie Vardy’s future.

Arsenal fans were the subject of ridicule on Thursday as Leicester City confirmed their star player Jamie Vardy had agreed a four-year deal with the Foxes. The Englishman, who is currently on international duty with the Three Lions at the Euro 2016 in France, had been linked with a move out of the King Power Stadium to join the North Londoners this summer.

As expected, the excitement had started building up among fans of the Gunners, as some went to an extent of predicting how their team would lineup the next season after Vardy’s arrival.

But their dream of watching the Premier League Player of the Season 2015/16 donning the famous red and white shirt was shuttered on Thursday, after weeks of speculation and excitement all over social media.

The statement posted on LCFC's website read:

''Leicester City have today (Thursday) agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years. Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club.

''Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France. There will be no further comment from either the Club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament.''

On Twitter, rival fans trolled their Arsenal counterparts after missing out on signing yet another big name in the world of football. What really caught their attention was the assumption that the Gunners have a habit of identifying superstars during the transfer window, linking them with a move to North London, then failing to complete the deal.
