Chile's Arturo Vidal has declared Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi the best player in the world.

The Chile and Bayern Munich midfielder has finally aired his opinion on the endless debate about the best player in the world. The former Juventus star was speaking after his country crushed Mexico 7-0 in their Copa America quarter-final clash on Sunday, a result that booked them a ticket to the semi-finals of the competition against Colombia on Thursday at the Soldier Field stadium in Chicago.

A win against Colombia will guarantee a place in the finals where they will face either Argentina or the United states, who are set to battle it out in the other semi-final clash of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the possible clash with Argentina, Vidal said:

"Everybody knows what Messi is: he is the best player in the world,

"I said that because in that game a 2-1 defeat for Chile Argentina came out with intensity and started to pressure us, unlike in other games. But with Messi on the pitch everything changes."

The 29-year-old will however miss the semi-final of the Copa America Centenario after picking up his second yellow card of his tournament against Mexico. Chile will be eyeing their second consecutive Copa America title having won it for the first time in the 2015 edition.
