The talented footballer missed his grandmother's funeral to play this match, and he couldn't hold back his feelings during the post-match interview.

After all, footballers are regular human beings like you and me, and Angel Di Maria's gesture when the game concluded proves that point.

The Argentinean wingman scored one goal and handed out an assist during Argentina's 2-1 win against Chile, earning the game's Man of the Match award. When he was asked to share his feelings on camera, Di Maria couldn't help but remembering his recently deceased grandmother, and broke out in tears.

"Yeah, it's tough. It's tough because of my mom, my relatives and everybody. Sometimes we get slammed for not performing well, but then these things happen. And you have to endure criticism when your family is going through a tough time, it's hard not to be there for your family," Di Maria revealed

Later, the player revealed that he chose to play, because his grandmother would have wanted him to do so.

"She used to say that she felt really proud when I played with the National Team. My mother asked me to stay here, I wanted to play so I could pay tribute to her, and I knew I would have a chance to score and dedicate her my performance," the player added.
