The suspect was planning 15 attacks on host nation France, including Muslim and Jewish places of worship.

Ukraine have aided Euro 2016 with a huge hand in keeping the security, as news has emerged revealing they arrested a Frenchman within their borders who was planning attacks on France ahead of the tournament’s kick off.

Set to start on June 10 and continue for an entire month, the tournament could have been rocked by disaster, as the suspect was plotting 15 attacks on the host nation, with governmental buildings and Jewish and Muslim places of worship being the target. Luckily, Ukraine foiled the plan and arrested the man, as announced in a statement by the country’s security service SBU.

“We did a big job, had a large team of security agents work on it. The bulk of the credit goes to the military counter-intelligence unit of the SBU,” said the agency’s head Vasily Gritsak (as per RT).

"The Frenchman spoke negatively about his government's actions, mass immigration, the spread of Islam and globalisation, and also talked about plans to carry out several terrorist attacks,” Gritsak added (as per Marca).

The French national, who remains unidentified, tried to smuggle 125 kg of TNT and Kalashnikov assault rifles among a few other weapons, but was caught in his attempts to reach Poland.

French Special Forces have been on high alert in the build-up to the opening game between Les Bleues and Romania, as the country’s capital fell victim to terrorism when several attacks were carried out in Paris, one near Stade de France.
