FC Barcelona defender Marc Bartra is set to leave the Catalan giants to join German team Borussia Dortmund.

Bartra has been struggling to gain a starting position in Luis Enrique's line up, which has prompted the 25-year old to leave the Camp Nou.

According to Sport, the centre-back will join Bundesliga runners-up with a 5-year-contract for a fee of eight million euros.

Bartra came through La Masia, joining the club at the age of 11 and since then has scored a few important goals for Luis Enrique's men. To date, he has played 108 official games for the Catalan club, but has decided to leave his long-time team in search of playing a more convincing and prominent role on the pitch.Marc-Bartra

However, Barcelona is not ready to let go of the Spaniard, as they recently offered a renewal option which is to loan him out for two years allowing him to return to the Blaugranas ready to be a regular. Yet, the Spanish international's representative Carles Puyol has considered it best to make a permanent transfer away from the club regardless of their offer.

Marc Bartra has been called up for Spain's squad for Euro 2016 but has been given permission for a break to formalise his signing for Dortmund.

Bartra is expected to star for Spain in Euro 2016. He has had 24 appearances for La Furia Roja. The Spaniards will begin their adventure against the Czech Republic on  June 13.
