FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez is in a race against time to participate in this month's Copa America Centenario.

Suarez suffered a hamstring injury in the 55th minute of the Copa Del Rey final against Sevilla, as he limped off the field in tears. Since he has been diagnosed with this injury, the Uruguayan has been working hard to be fit again for the summer tournament.Luis-Suarez

According to Marca, the 2016 Pichichi man has been working in the gym as well as doing some low intensity running separate from the rest of the team.

His positive progress means Luis Suarez might be available and fit to play in Uruguay's third group match against Jamaica on June 13.

Speaking with reporters of Ovation, secretary of the national team and international affairs of the Uruguayan Federation, Roberto Pastoriza, said:

"Luis is one of those players who does not need to play minutes to reach his top level.

"He showed this against England in the World Cup when he spent a month without doing anything after knee surgery and then came back and scored two goals."

Suarez has scored 44 goals in 84 appearances for La Celeste. The Uruguayans will begin their adventure against Mexico on June 5.
