The Argentine superstar is being accused of defrauding Spanish tax authorities after failing to declare taxes from his image rights from 2007 to 2009.

Argentinean superstar Lionel Messi had his day in front of Spanish tax authorities earlier today, giving testimony in the trial against his father and himself for failing to declare his image rights income to local authorities.

Sporting a beard and a black suit, Messi was met with mixed reactions by those waiting outside the court. As he walked from his van to the steps of the courthouse, fans jeered the footballer, who never looked back to confront those who made their voices heard.

Here's Messi's arrival to the courthouse.

Messi and his father Jorge, are accused of using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings coming from his image rights. Last year, the judge dismissed a request from Messi's attorneys to drop the case against the player, since they claim he had no idea of what was going on. Today, the player backed up that story.

Responding only to his attorney's questions and even yawning at times, Messi revealed he never got into what contracts he was signing, given that he always trusted his father's advice.

"I didn't know anything, all I know about is playing football and winning. I left it all to my Dad. I only knew that sponsors would pay X amount of money, that I had to do adverts, photos and things like that," Messi stated in the court of law.

Later, Jorge Messi stepped up to provide an explanation of why the superstar should be excused of any wrongdoing.

"Since the start of Leo's career I only tried to make his life easier, Leo knew nothing of these companies. He didn't read the contracts. They needed his signature, he went and signed but he didn't read anything and nor did anyone explain it to him," Messi's father added.

"La Pulga" and his father were inside the courthouse for over four hours. While tax authorities want both men to serve two years in prison, the public prosecution only wants Jorge Messi to be indicted. The hearings will continue tomorrow, but neither Messi nor his father will appear in front of court.
