Rio Ferdinand could land a new role at Old Trafford under Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hopes to lure Rio Ferdinand to join his coaching staff at Old Trafford. The Portuguese tactician was officially announced the new Red Devils boss on Friday, and is keen on restoring the club to its glory days by deriving inspiration from its legendary players.

However, Ryan Giggs' new role at the club is still a mystery, with reports from Daily Mail suggesting that the 42-year-old could be appointed the manager of the U21 side.

Ferdinand and Mourinho seem to have a solid friendship as the ex-Man United defender congratulated the former Chelsea boss on Twitter when news broke out that he had been appointed the new Man United boss after Louis Van Gaal’s sacking on Monday.

It is still unclear which exact role Ferdinand would play at his former club if he accepts the offer, but his appointment could made his counterpart Ryan Giggs quite unsettled at the club, considering the fact that he was one of the candidates earmarked to succeed LVG.
