The German center back will return to his former club after playing the last seven seasons for Borussia Dortmund.

German champions Bayern Munich revealed today that the club agreed a five-year deal with center back Mats Hummels. The former Dortmund player will be joining the Bavarian side once his performance with the German National Team comes to a close this summer.

After being given a clean bill of health, the 27-year old performer joined team chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to sign the new deal, which details remain undisclosed.

Speaking to the team's website, Rummenigge revealed what this move means for Die Roten, just days after winning the DFB Pokal title against Hummels' former club, Borussia Dortmund.

"Not only are we strengthening our squad with a world-class centre-back, but also with a player who accepts responsibility and who is our own youth product. First of all we wish him a successful Euro 2016,” the Bavarian exec stated.

The team's Twitter feed revealed Hummels' signing to their supporters.

Meanwhile, the talented center back shared his thoughts about the deal. Despite claiming to be "very excited", Hummels revealed it will not be easy to forget his time with Dortmund, just like he didn't forget his stint with Bayern years ago.

"Saying goodbye to Dortmund was difficult for me of course. It was similar to 2008, when it was the other way around. Now I'm looking forward to everything that awaits me at FC Bayern," the player added.

Hummels is expected to lead Bayern's defense for a very long time, and while doing that, he will have the chance to play regularly with Jerome Boateng, his team-mate with the German National Team.
