Northern Ireland's UEFA Euro history
This will be their first ever appearance in this top-flight tournament, as Michael O'Neill's lads managed to outperform their group competitors in order to participate in this contest. On 23 February 2014, Northern Ireland was drawn to face the Faroe Islands, Hungary, Finland, Greece, and Romania in UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying Group F and stunned their opponents by finishing on top of the table with 21 points, qualifying for this continental competition.
Recent Form
In 2015, Northern Ireland achieved a defeatless run in their last six international matches, as they clinched three wins and three draws. Of the two international friendlies played thus far this year, they have continued this positive streak with a one-all draw against Wales and a 1-0 victory over Slovenia. The Irish side currently claims the 26th posiiton, according to the latest FIFA world rankings as of May 2016.

Michael O'Neill was appointed as head coach for the national team in December 2011. Despite this, he has obtained titles coaching Shamrock Rovers, guiding them to two consecutive League trophies in 2010 and 2011 and one Setanta Cup. Furthermore, the former midfielder also achieved honors as a professional footballer bagging the Football League Trophy in 1999 with Wigan Athletic and securing the Irish Premier League during the 2002/2003 campaign as a Glentoran player. Since taking charge of Northern Ireland's national football team, he has led his side to a 26.62 winning percentage. O'Neill is known for pressing high and tinkering with his team's formation to cause other countries problems.
