For one team, the Coppa Italia will be the crowning achievement on what has been another excellent domestic campaign. For another, it represents their only salvation and ticket into European competition - something that they desperately need after season after season of bad results.
Both AC Milan and Juventus will be keen on getting their hands on the Coppa Italia as they clash at the Stadio Olimpico this Saturday. However, only one team will be crowned winners at the end of 90 minutes - or perhaps more - depending on how things turn out.
AC Milan
For Milan, it has been yet another disappointing campaign. Although the Rossoneri ended up finishing the regular Serie A season in seventh place - an improvement on the past two seasons - they now face yet another term sans European football. In years past, the thought of a team like Sassuolo, who only made their top flight debut in 2013 beating them to a Europa Leauge spot would have been unthinkable, but that is the reality that Diavolo fans have to face in 2016.
However, all hope is not lost just yet. Although the club's president Silvio Berlusconi opted to fire Siniša Mihajlović earlier this season, the Serbian tactician had guided the team to their first Coppa Italia final in 13 seasons. Currently under the tutelage of Cristian Brocchi, Milan now have a chance to feature in the Europa League.
That is, provided they can beat Juventus, who are the reigning champions in this competition. And given that Milan have lost their last seven meetings against the Bianconeri, the Diavolo will face a tough task to defeat La Vecchia Signora - and one of their former managers - on Saturday evening.
Juventus
As for Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri's men will come into this game as the heavy favorites to successfully defend their Coppa Italia title. Should the Bianconeri manage this on Saturday, it will mark the 11th overall for the club, and back-to-back domestic doubles for their manager. Although last season's Coppa Italia final win for Juventus was their first in 20 years, la Vecchia Signora will be taking on a team that are devoid of confidence, especially given that Milan were defeated 3-1 by Roma in their last game of the season.
Juventus arrive in the Italian capital having cruised to a comfortable 5-0 win over Sampdoria. It was the perfect way to conclude a season that saw them struggle initially, but rebound admirably to surge to the top of the table and win their fifth straight Scudetto.
So, will the Bianconeri make it consecutive domestic doubles and a 11th Coppa Italia? Or will the Rossoneri salvage their European hopes with a victory in Saturday's Coppa Italia tie at the Stadio Olimpico?
