Luis Suarez’s has set a new La Liga record that had been preserved for seven years.

After netting 40 league goals for Barcelona this season, Luis Suarez is the first La Liga player to beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to Pichichi in seven years. The previous seven years were dominated by the two football gods, not until the Uruguay international stamped his authority this season by firing from all cylinders.

The 29-year-old has now scored 40 league goals in 35 appearances for Luis Enrique’s men, and provided 16 assists in the process. This season alone, he has won the FIFA Club World Cup, La Liga, Pichichi, and is on the course of winning the Copa del Rey with the Spanish giants.

The former Liverpool man also set a new record of being the first player to become the top scorer in Eredivisie (Ajax), Premier League (Liverpool) and La Liga (Barcelona).
