The race for the English Premier League title may be over, with the title firmly and officially in Leicester’s hands, but the race for a top-four finish is far from over.
Arsenal currently occupy third spot, boasting a three-point lead over fourth-placed Man City with only two games remaining, as 20-time champions Man United breathe down their necks in fifth with an eye on a Champions League spot.
The Gunners and the Citizens will clash this weekend – on Sunday – at the Etihad, as victory would help both sides in finishing third. Who’ll win the game, however?
Team news – who’s fit and who’s not?
The injury list ahead of Sunday’s game is long and costly, with Man City’s absentee list more worrisome than that of the Gunners.
Pellegrini decided on resting several players en route to their 4-2 Southampton defeat for the Real Madrid tie, but were defeated regardless, whilst also losing Vincent Kompany to injury.
The Citizens captain joins midfielder David Silva (hamstring), Pablo Zabaleta (calf) and Aleksandar Kolarov (knock) on the sidelines for the all-important Etihad affair.
The north London giants, on the other hand, will have to make do without vice-captain Per Mertesacker (hamstring) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee), with the latter set to miss Euro 2016, but could witness the return of Santi Cazorla from injury.
Head to head
Arsenal have finally managed a run of good results against Man City since the Citizens emergence as a dominant force in England, as Wenger’s boys are undefeated in their last 4 meetings with Aguero and Co.
The Gunners won their last two clashes with Pellegrini’s side, including a surprise 2-0 away win in January of last year. Furthermore, the Sky Blues have lost 23 Premier League games against the north London giants, more than against any other club.
However, Ozil and Co.’s recent away form leaves a lot to be desired, having lost one and drawn five of their last 8 games on the road.
