No UEFA Champions League glory for Pep Guardiola, at least for the past four years.
As the Catalan coach prepares to join Manchester City next summer, his project to win the coveted European tournament once more will have to wait at least a year, since Bayern Munich wasn't able to eliminate a tough Atlético Madrid side.
Despite winning the second leg of the series against Los Colchoneros, Guardiola & Co. will have to watch the tournament's final on their flat screen, since an away goal by Antoine Griezmann sent Die Roten packing.
To make matters worse for Pep, this has been the fourth straight time in which his teams haven't been able to make it to the tournament's final. In 2012, Chelsea eliminated Barcelona and went on to win the trophy. After taking a sabatical, Real Madrid ousted Bayern with a 5-0 aggregate, humiliating them at Allianz Arena with a 4-0 score line. Last year, Barcelona eliminated the Bavarians, and this year, Atlético kicked them out of the competition with their tough defensive style.
Fans didn't forget how Guardiola arrived to Munich, and how he will leave for another challenge without winning another UCL trophy. Here are the best reactions from fans and experts.
4 - Pep Guardiola has now been knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage in each of the last four seasons. Exit.

Guardiola left Spain just to endure three consecutive knockouts to Spanish clubs in the UCL semifinals. Tough.

Guardiola inherited a treble winning side, improved the squad and made them worse. Shambolic. Jupp Heynckes was better, dont @ me.

Something oddly enjoyable about watching a Guardiola team lose.

The season is over. I don't care about the BL and Pokal result. Three years lost with Pep #Guardiola. That's all.

[4] Mourinho
[3] Beenhakker, GUARDIOLA
#Guardiola without Messi & Iniesta is like Ford Coppola without Pacino & Brando...good, very good...but not great #Bayern
