Leicester City star Jamie Vardy has been named the Football Writers Association Player of the Year for the 2015/16 season. This comes just a week after his fellow teammate Riyad Mahrez was named the PFA player of the season.
The two have been instrumental to the Foxes’ title hunt this season, having netted 39 league goals between them. Vardy, despite his two-match suspension due to improper conduct, is still in the race for the golden boot. Spurs’ Harry Kane tops the goal scorers list with 24 league goals, two more than Vardy. The year-old has also proven that his success in the league is not by fluke; he has scored two goals for England this year in two appearances.
Vardy has had a fairy tale rise to the top this season. A few years ago, he was playing in the lower divisions in England but fast forward to this season, he broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record after scoring in 11 consecutive league games for Claudio Ranieri’s men. His star seems to be shinning even brighter, if his performance while on duty with England is anything to go by.
Meanwhile, the Foxes are aiming for the league title and their dreams could come true today when Spurs play their bitter rivals Chelsea. If Chelsea wins this match, then Leicester City will be declared Champions without kicking a ball.
