With the upcoming Euro 2016 tournament – kick starting on June 10 – right around the corner, Spain coach Vicente del Bosque will soon have to name his final squad for the summer competition, as the reigning champions will have to leave behind some big-name players for the trip to France.
One Spanish player tipped to make the cut is Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres, who is currently enjoying wonderful football again after nearing the end of his career thanks to disappointing spells with Chelsea and AC Milan.
The man who continues to terrorize Barca’s defense appears back at home at the Vicente Calderon stadium, showing glimpse of the player who scored at free will whilst at Liverpool. However, the 32-year-old is not too upbeat about a return to La Furia Roja.
Last making an appearance for the national side in July 2014, El Nino has instead advised Del Bosque to call up rising Rojiblancos team-mate Saul to a prominently Barca and Real Madrid dominated squad.
Speaking in a recent interview with AS, Torres was asked about a call-up to the national side, with the Spaniard saying: "I didn't ask for a call, and I don't want one. What I would have liked will stay with me, because I don't want my words to harm the team. I have no problems with Vicente or the technical team."
After noting to Torres that he is an in-form striker back to goalscoring ways, the World Cup winner responded by saying: "Better they call Saul."
Saul has impressed this season for Diego Simeone’s side thanks to his 4 goals and 2 assists in 24 Liga BBVA stats, whilst also making the headlines for his solo effort for the winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich.
