The La Liga title chase continues this weekend when Real Sociedad welcome Real Madrid at the Anoeta.

Real Sociedad survived relegation by securing a 1-1 draw against Villarreal on April 24, and will be looking to prove that they are not only focused on survival this season when they host Los Blancos, but also proving a point to their opponents. It should be remembered that the Basque club embarrassed La Liga title favorites Barcelona by a solitary goal at the same venue three weeks ago, a result that blew the league title wide open to accommodate their weekend opponents Real Madrid and Diego Simeone’s men. Now, the top three clubs are well aware of the fact that if they drop even a single point at this juncture of the campaign, it could seriously dent their hopes of clinching the tightly-contested title.

On paper, Zinedine Zidane’s men have the upper hand coming into this fixture. They are on a nine-match winning streak in La Liga, and could extend it to 10 when they visit Sociedad. Additionally, they have won 12 of their last 14 meetings against Real Sociedad in all competitions, while registering over 2.5 goals in the last nine La Liga games between the two sides. For betting enthusiasts, this match could register over 2.5 goals despite the absence of key players from both camps.

Real Madrid have major injury concerns ahead of this fixture. Two of their star players, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo are set to miss this clash, but could be replaced by Borja Mayoral and Lucas Vazquez. On the other hand, Isco or James Rodriquez could start in place of Toni Kross, while Casemiro is set to return from suspension. With the absence of Benzema and Ronaldo, all eyes will  be on Gareth Bale, who is expected to lead Los Blancos’ attack. Bale has scored 18 league goals and provided 10 assists in 21 appearances for the Catalan giants this season. Quite some impressive statistics for the Welshman considering his regular injury problems that have kept him out of action in some matches.

On the other hand, Real Sociedad will play without Carlos Vela who has been suspended, but Jonathas should be available to start. Mikel Oyarzabal could also start on the right, while Diego Reyes takes care of the defensive midfield area.
