Reports claimed that the Dutchman would not feature again in 2015/16, having suffered a muscle injury.

Bayern Munich’s hopes of winning the treble for a second time in three years have reportedly been handed a huge blow, as reports emerged on Friday claiming that star midfielder Arjen Robben has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

This is as tweeted by Christian Ortlepp of Sport1, who wrote on social media that the culprit behind the Dutchman’s unexpected end to the 2015/15 campaign is none other than another muscle injury.

The 32-year-old has not featured for the defending Bundesliga champions since the 0-0 draw with BVB back in March, with Robben’s doctor revealing to Bild (as per ESPN FC) that the player was aiming for a return to full fitness in time for their DFB-Pokal final clash with Thomas Tuchel’s boys.

However, this dream appears to have vanished, as a reoccurring muscle issue – on which kept him on the sidelines for 4 weeks during the beginning of this Champions League term – looks to prolong his return to the field.

If true, this will come as a major disappointment to coach Pep Guardiola and his hopes of winning European club football’s top prize in his last season in charge at the Allianz Arena, as die Roten need to overturn a 1st leg 1-0 defeat to Atletico in the last 4 in order to book their ticket to the final in Milan.

Robben’s nagging struggles with fitness this season has limited him to only 14 starts in the Bundesliga; however, although his absence will prove costly to Bayern Munich, the German giants are loaded with an array of midfield talents to cope in the form of Douglas Costa, Kingsley Coman, and Franck Ribery.

UPDATE

In a pre-match press conference for Saturday's tricky home tie against Borussia Monchengladbach, press officer Markus Hörwick denied the rumors claiming Robben's 2015/16 campaign is over, claiming that the Dutchman will likely feature before the season ends.
