'Le Proff' has explained Arsenal's failure to win the league title this season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained why the Gunners have failed to keep up with the race for the league title this season. Earlier this year, the North Londoners were in firm control of the league table but things took an interesting turn since their defeat to a youthful Man United side at Old Trafford. Since the defeat, Wenger’s side has come tumbling down the league table after a series of draws, occasional defeats and narrow wins.

As a result, a section of Arsenal fans and support groups such as the Black Scarf Movement, Red Action and Arsenal Supporters Trust have come together to organize protests demanding for the immediate sacking of club tactician Arsene Wenger.  The North London club has now gone more than a decade without a league trophy and is facing a torrid time trying to secure a Champions League spot for next season. However, in his defense, the French tactician said:

''We lost the championship at home against the lower teams, but we played at home in a very difficult climate.

“We have to realise that, away from home, we are championship winners. At home, against the smaller teams, we lost the league.

“This club does have special values though and one I've experienced over the years is to stick together and support the team. There's no success without that.”

But there is some truth in Wenger’s statement; his side has the third-best away record behind league leaders Leicester City and their next door neighbors Tottenham Hotspur. In matches played against the top 10 clubs this season away from the Emirates stadium, Arsenal have played 17 times, won 5 times, drawn 7 times and lost 5 times. At home, they have played 9 times, won 4 times, drawn 2 times and lost 2 times.
