Just like Robert Lewandowski and Mario Götze before him, Mats Hummels seems to be getting ready for a move away from Borussia Dortmund. The 27-year old defender would re-join with his former team-mates, as his intention is none other than to sign with Bayern Munich.
The 2014 World Cup winner submitted a transfer request earlier today, according to a press release issued by the yellow-and-black outfit.
"Borussia Dortmund's defender Mats Hummels has communicated to the team's board he wants to leave the club by the end of the season. The player handed in a transfer request so he can join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer," the press release states.
"The team's board is open to part ways with the player, but only if the club interested in his services hands in an extremely valuable offer that reflects the player's extraordinary worth," the press release continues.
Hummels played for Bayern's youth categories before joining Borussia Dortmund a few years back.
Finally, the DFB-Pokal finalists revealed that Bayern Munich haven't made an offer to sign the defender, who's contract ends with the 2016-2017 season.
Hummels' request comes in a bad time, since Borussia Dortmund is still fighting to strip the Bundesliga title away from Bayern Munich and with an upcoming DFB Pokal final between both sides. Here's how fans reacted to the news on Twitter.

Gotze, Lewandowski and now Hummels have all snaked out. Not gonna say much about them but I have so much more respect for Reus now. Dignity.

Sad part for me is that Hummels will have many options abroad and the like but will still opt for BVB's main rivals. Club loyalty is dead.
