Marcelino's lads will be facing Liverpool for the first leg of the Europa semi-finals on Thursday, in hopes to secure a vital home win for his side.

Regardless of Villarreal’s recent form, losing two of their recent appearances in La Liga, Marcelino’s side are still firm favorites to finish fourth on the table resulting in the qualification for next season’s Champions League. The home side must put on a good performance against the English team if they want to capitalize any of their chances of European glory.

Arguable one of the most important matches of Liverpool’s season awaits, as the Reds take on the Yellow Submarines, aiming to book their position in the final of the Europa League.

Since Klopp’s arrival to Liverpool, the team has been in great form, as their only recent loss in the Premier League was back on the 20th of March against Southhampton. The Reds sit on the table with 55 points, closely edging West Ham for the sixth position. Nonetheless, Klopp and Co. need to make a bold statement at El Madrigal in order to reach the final of the Europa League.

Team news - who's fit and who's not?

Things are looking great for the home side, as Villarreal will enter this match with a fully fit and available squad. Marcelino's crew is pleased to have centre-back Mateo Musacchio and left-back Jaume Costa back in the match day group after their long-term injuries, as they aim to secure a win at home against Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp will be delighted for the return of Christian Benteke after he was sidelined since mid March due to a knee injury. However, the Reds will be without midfielders Emre Can(ankle) and Jordan Henderson(knee) as well as Belgian striker Divock Origi(ankle). Yet, the most talked about point of Klopp’s crew is the suspension of Mamadou Sakho. France international Sakho has been suspended for 30 days due to a failed drugs test.

Head to head:

The two teams will be meeting for the first time in UEFA club competition, even though they played against each other in a pre-season friendly back in 2008, which resulted in a 0-0 draw at El Madrigal.

In their recent 13 UEFA games against English teams, Villarreal has a shaky record of three wins, six draws and four losses at home. Away in England, they have only managed to win once while drawing twice and losing three times.

In the Red’s last 32 UEFA matches against Spanish opposition, they have managed to win 13 matches while losing nine times and drawing ten times. In Spain, Liverpool has won seven games, yet have lost and drawn four times.
