League VP Lino Di Cuollo revealed that negotiations to lure Casillas away from the Portuguese Primeira Liga have started, and they expect the goalie to join 'soon'.

One year after he completed his move to FC Porto, Iker Casillas could be forced to pack his bags once again.

In an interview with Portuguese website Maisfutebol, MLS Vice President Lino di Cuollo admitted the League has begun talks with Casillas' agents to watch him play in North America.

"I don't know if we'll pay for Casillas' buyout clause, but to be honest, there have been talks with his agents. There have been a number of talks between both parties," di Cuollo stated.

The former Real Madrid goalkeeper has been harshly criticized by members of the Portuguese media for his continuous problems on the pitch, which saw Porto slip from the first spot to struggling to keep their current third place in the Primeira Liga standings.

Casillas has been nicknamed "butter hands" by some members of the Portuguese press.

Despite admitting talks between the player's agents and the league's representatives, MLS' Vice President kept to himself the possibility of having Casillas joining the league anytime soon.

"For next season? Well, I don't want to spoil the deal. There have been talks and of course, we would like to close that deal as soon as possible. We'll have to wait and see how things are sorted out," the league's exec added.

Earlier this week, Porto's coach José Peseiro revealed that Iker Casillas will have to share the team's goalkeeping duties with Brazilian shot-stopper Helton, given that the latter will play the Portuguese cup final as the starter. As of now, Porto has seen their title chances fly away, with the Portuguese Cup being the only trophy left for them to fight for.
