Premier League sides Man United and Everton are set to clash this weekend in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Here is the latest you need to know about this clash.

Manchester United travel to Goodison Park to face an Everton side that is still fresh from the 4-0 thrashing in the hands of their bitter rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last Wednesday. The Toffees and the Red Devils are in not in the race for the Premier League title or any other title apart from the FA Cup. Hence, fans should expect a thrilling encounter as these two sides try their best to outdo each other in a bid to end the season with silverware.

The two sides are meeting for the third time in the semi-final of the FA Cup. When they first met in 1966, Everton won by a solitary goal from Colin Harvey. In total, the two clubs have met 11 times in the FA Cup and so far, they have proven to be equally good against each other. The Merseyside club has won six of those 11 encounters, while the Red Devils have won five.

However, fast forward to their four most recent league meetings, Man United have won three of them and have not conceded a goal in their meetings this season.

The Toffees have quite some experience in the semi-finals of the FA Cup; they have reached this stage 26 times, and made it to the finals 13 times. Only Man United and Arsenal have a higher number of appearances in the cup (28), excluding replays.

The Red Devils will have to keep their eye on Everton’s hitman Romelu Lukaku, who has scored in each of his five FA Cup games, and has a goal tally of six so far in this competition. Another factor that should give LVG’s men a reason to worry is that, the Toffees have proceeded to the finals in six of their last seven FA Cup semi-final appearances.

Match facts

  • Man Utd will be making their 28th FA Cup semi-final appearance
  • The Red Devils have reached the finals of the FA Cup 18 times
  • However, LVG’s side has been eliminated in their last two FA-Cup semi-final appearances. One was against Everton in 2009, and the other against Man City in 2011.
  •  Before the elimination, the Old Trafford outfit had made it to the semi-finals of the competition 13 consecutive times between 1976 and 2007.
  • Unfortunately for the Reds, they have not won an FA Cup match at Wembley since their last meeting against Newcastle in the 1999 final
