Manchester United have reportedly made a decision regarding the manager who will take charge of the team next season.

The Red Devils have been consistently linked with a move for former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho as their next manager, but according to football expert Gullem Balague, Mou will not be at Old Trafford in the summer.

In an interesting twist of events, Balague now claims that the English giants have decided to retain their current manager Louis Van Gaal next season.

The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford has been hanging in the balance following their elimination from the Capital One Cup, Champions League, Europa League and the Premier League title chase, not forgetting the ‘boring’ playing style. Regarding Man Utd’s next manager, Balague told Yahoo Sports:

“He is already preparing for next season and is eying Everton’s Romelu Lukaku. Will they sell? Who knows?

“One thing, I have been told, is certain. Van Gaal, as it stands in this volatile world of football, will continue as manager, fully supported by the United board, who do not take such decisions lightly. He has their confidence, let’s hope the fans can share some of their insight.”

Although Mourinho has all the necessary experience to steer the Old Trafford outfit back to its glory days, a section of the boardroom is still unsure on his appointment. Iconic figures at the club such as Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson are reportedly against the idea of having the former Chelsea boss as the new Man Utd tactician.

About Mou’s expected arrival, Balague added:

“And what of Mourinho? Having learnt for months that United was not a possibility even though his own people kept stating the deal was done to put pressure to Van Gaal and hoping the Manchester United board changed their mind, he has stated his intention to work next season.

“The pressure against Van Gaal from Mourinho’s camp will continue I am sure, but at Old Trafford they don’t think it will work and will change the mind of those that are against his appointment.”
