The Bundesliga giants avoided the English side in the semis, meaning a meeting in the ultimate game is a possibility.

It’s an odd prospect to fathom, but could become a reality, as Pep Guardiola’s current side Bayern Munich could face off against the Spaniard’s future club Man City in the Champions League final.

Of course, this requires that both sides overcome their semi-final opponents – Atletico for the Bavarians and Real Madrid for the Citizens – in order to meet in Milan.

However, a possible meeting in the ultimate game will prove a stern test to the Spaniard’s allegiance: is it with his current team or next season’s employers?

Bayern avoided the Citizens in the semis, yet Pep could still meet City in the final

This question arises from the sticky situation that the Citizens are currently in, and the dilemma that could hand to the former Barca tactician should the two clubs meet in the final.

Manuel Pellegrini’s boys currently sit in fourth spot in the domestic league, meaning that at the moment they are on target for a Champions League berth next season.

However, Aguero and Co. face tough games against Chelsea and Arsenal in the remaining five fixtures, and with West Ham and Man United hot on their heels, Man City could miss out on a top-four finish.

As a result, should the English giants eliminate Real Madrid in the last 4, they’ll have to emulate Chelsea from 2012 and win the Champions League to secure their spot in the coveted competition regardless of their league finish.

Should this situation arise, Guardiola will have to shatter the Citizens’ hopes if he wishes to win the Champions League at Bayern (for the first time) in his final season at the Allianz Arena.

Guardiola is a professional who is unlikely to sabotage his own club’s chances of winning silverware, but one could easily expect a part of the 45-year-old to hope Man City win in order to avoid playing in the Europa League for the very first time in 2016/17.
