Germany star Marco Reus has been honoured with a prestigious award just hours before his country face Italy in an international friendly.

Germany international Marco Reus has received the 2015 Germany National Team Goal of the Year award. The Borussia Dortmund forward received the prestigious award at the Allianz Arena after the team’s training on Monday morning ahead of their crucial international friendly fixture against Italy. Speaking moments after receiving the award, Reus said:

"I’m delighted to have drawn level with my friend Mario Götze, who scored 2014’s Goal of the Year,"

“My goal was just as important as his (laughs). But in all seriousness, the fans no doubt chose this one because of the great build-up play from Sami Khedira too. That might have been what put it ahead of the other candidates."The 26-year-old was rewarded for his stunning goal against Australia in 2015. Out of the total votes cast by the Fan Club Nationalmannschaft, Reus’ goal received 35.8% of the votes, his teammate Mario Gotze came second for his goal against Poland by garnering 27.2% of the total votes, while Bayern Munich star Thomas Mueller came third for his opening goal against Poland, having got 14.8% of the votes.
