James Rodriguez and Co. look to make up ground in the race to book a ticket to Russia, as they host table-toppers Ecuador.

Fresh off their thrilling 3-2 win over Thursday, South American giants Colombia dive into their next World Cup qualifying clash: an encounter with Ecuador.

However, despite their recent victory, Jose Pekermen’s crew are still lagging in the race to book a ticket to Russia, as James Rodriguez and Co. sit in seventh spot.

Will Los Cafeteros be able to gain ground in Tuesday’s game?

Team news – no Ospina for Ecuador clash?

The biggest team news in the build-up to this round 6 match is that surrounding Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina.

The Gunners shot-stopper suffered a painful fall after attempting to clear the ball in Thursday’s 3-2 win and was thus helped off the pitch after the final whistle, despite playing the full 90 minutes.

The 27-year-old suffered a back injury prior to reporting for international duty in the 2-0 win over Everton in the English Premier League. Whether the Arsenal man will be sidelined for a substantial period remains unknown.

Ecuador themselves will also be without a key player, as they will have to make do without the qualification phase’s top-scorer Felipe Caicedo after coming down with injury in Espanyol’s 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on last Sunday.

Head to head

Gustavo Quinteros’s boys are the competition’s surprise package, as vital wins over South American powerhouses Argentina and Uruguay have seen La Tricolor climb to the top of the standings.

Ecuador, having played five games so far, have 13 points out of a possible 15, 6 more than their Tuesday opponents.

However, if Jose Pekerman’s crew have one thing going for them it’s their recent record against their continental rivals.

Ecuador last beat Los Cafeteros in 2012 courtesy of a 1-0 win; however, that was one mere victory compared to four defeats in their last five run-ins with Colombia.
