The Republic of Ireland face Switzerland in an international friendly as they prepare to participate in the Euro 2016.

The two sides are widely seen as the underdogs of the European tournament but they will use this match to flex their muscles ahead of the much-anticipated tournament.

The Irish come into this game having struggled to earn their place in the European competition. Out of their first six games, they had managed only two wins but later bounced back with victories over Gibraltar (4-0) and the famous 1-0 win over World Cup winners Germany. This historic performance gave them the much-needed confidence to face their opponents, and are currently enjoying a rich form that has seen them win four games, draw one and lose one out of their last six. They only lost to Poland towards the end of Euro 2016 qualifying round.

Ireland have won their last three games at home, and are the favourites to beat Switzerland when the two sides clash on Wednesday. In fact, they kept a clean sheet in each of those meeting at home, most recently the 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, when Jonathan Walters scored a brace.

On the other hand, after finishing second in their Euro qualifying ground behind bigwigs England, Switzerland have registered seven wins in their campaign and scored 24 goals in the process. Although they have been strong at home, having scored 11 goals against Lithuania and San Marino, Switzerland are not as good when playing away from their home crowd. They have lost twice in their last five games away from home. However, they did register a 2-1 win over Austria in an international friendly away from home back in November. Based on the low scoring record between the two sides, this fixture could see under 2.5 goals with Ireland standing the higher chance of winning thanks to their impressive home record.
